3. Shutter finish
What you see and touch. Roughly cheapest to dearest: laminate, membrane, acrylic, PU paint, natural veneer. Finish is usually the single biggest swing in a kitchen quote.
4. Hardware
Hinges, drawer channels and lift-ups. Branded soft-close hardware costs more up front and is the part most likely to fail first if you economise. Ask for the brand in writing, not just “soft-close”.
5. Accessories
Tall units, pull-out baskets, corner carousels, cutlery trays, bottle pull-outs. These are individually priced and are where a quote quietly inflates. Decide which you will genuinely use.
How Layout Changes the Cost
Straight kitchen
One run of cabinetry along a single wall. Fewest running feet, so the lowest total — common in Latur flats.
L-shaped
Two adjoining walls. The most popular layout locally; adds a corner, which needs either a carousel or a blind unit.
Parallel
Two facing runs. Efficient to cook in, but you are paying for two full runs of base and wall units.
U-shaped
Three walls. The most storage and the highest cost, and it needs a room wide enough to keep a comfortable gap in the middle.
Where Cheap Quotes Hide the Difference
Carcass swapped down
A quote can look lower simply because the box behind the shutter is MDF rather than plywood. Compare material, not just the total.
Unbranded hardware
“Soft-close” with no brand named is the most common way to shave a quote. It is also the first thing to sag.
Counter and sink excluded
Check whether granite or quartz counter, sink and tap are inside or outside the number.
Accessories priced later
Baskets and tall units listed as “optional” can add a large amount after you have committed.
Loft and filler panels
The gap between the wall unit and the ceiling, and the scribe fillers at the walls, are real work. They should appear in the quote.

Acrylic gives a high gloss, seamless look and resists fading better. Laminate is more scratch-tolerant in a busy family kitchen and much easier to repair. Neither is simply better — it depends on how the kitchen gets used.
Do you charge for the design and the site visit?

Is the granite counter included in your quote?
